An update and pictures of the ongoing reconstruction of the bridge at Odo Ona Kekere, along Ijebu Ode Road, Ibadan into a 90-meter-long bridge. The bridge reconstruction at Odo Ona Kekere is a World Bank-assisted project, one of several flood control measures executed by the Oyo State Government under the Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project (IUFMP). The reconstruction of the bridge at Odo Ona Kekere and the bridge at Agara Akala Way is being done to match the ongoing IUFMP Ona River channelisation in the same area.
The Oyo State Government, on 17 November 2023, announced the planned demolition of the existing bridges at Odo Ona Kekere and on Agara Akala Way on 21 November 2023. While both bridges are being reconstructed, alternative routes were provided for road users affected. The project for the reconstruction of the bridge at Odo Ona Kekere, along Ijebu Ode Road and the bridge on Ona River, Agara Akala Way, New Garage, is scheduled to be completed in May 2024.
In addition to the IUFMP reconstruction of the bridges at Odo Ona Kekere and Agara Akala Way, there are other ongoing IUFMP river expansions and channelisation at Ogbere (North), Agodi, Orogun, and Odo Ona Kekere/Elewe in Ibadan, with over 24 ongoing IUFMP flood prevention projects ongoing and completed in Ibadan.
