Ongoing IUFMP: Reconstruction of the Bridge on Ona River, Agara Akala Way, New Garage, Ibadan

An update and pictures of the ongoing reconstruction of the bridge on Ona River, Agara Akala Way, New Garage, Ibadan, a World Bank-assisted project that is one of several flood control measures executed by the Oyo State Government under the Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project (IUFMP). You can read more about the IUFMP here. The reconstruction of the bridge on the Ona River is being done to match the ongoing IUFMP Ona River channelisation in the same area.

The announcement of the demolition of the existing bridge on Agara Akala Way was made on 17 November 2023 for the planned demolition on 21 November 2023 by the Oyo State Government. Alternative routes were provided for road users affected while the reconstruction of the bridge on Agara Akala Way is being done. The project for the reconstruction of the bridge on Ona River, Agara Akala Way, New Garage is scheduled to be completed in May 2024.

In addition to the IUFMP reconstruction of the bridge on Ona River, Agara Akala Way, there are other ongoing IUFMP river expansions and channelisation at Ogbere (North), Agodi, Orogun, Kudeti and Odo Ona Kekere/Elewe in Ibadan, with over 24 ongoing IUFMP flood prevention projects ongoing and completed in Ibadan.
