An update and pictures of the ongoing road rehabilitation of the 37.1 km Alako–Idiya–Batake–Olowa Farm Settlement–Ijaiye in Ido LGA under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).
Work is advancing on the 37.1-kilometre Alako–Idiya–Batake–Olowa Farm Settlement–Ijaiye Road in Ido Local Government Area. This key agricultural corridor, which links several farm settlements and rural communities, is being rehabilitated using single-coat surface dressing, a durable surfacing method well suited for rural roads with high activity.
Ongoing works include earthworks, drainage improvements, and culvert construction to address water flow challenges and protect the road structure. These foundational activities are essential to ensure the long-term durability of the road, especially during the rainy season.
The Alako–Idiya–Batake–Olowa Farm Settlement–Ijaiye corridor plays an important role in the movement of farm produce, inputs, traders, and residents. When completed, the rehabilitated road will:
- Improve the speed and ease of transporting agricultural produce to urban markets
- Reduce post-harvest losses linked to poor road access
- Strengthen rural enterprise and encourage further investment in farming communities such as Ijaiye (The Oyo State Agribusiness Industrial Hub, Ijaiye, is a major project that directly benefits from the rehabilitation of this road).
RAAMP is co-funded by the Oyo State Government, the World Bank, and the French Development Agency (AFD). Other roads being rehabilitated under RAAMP are the 4.73 km Tewure Market–Ila Junction Road in Oriire LGA; the 6.82 km FRSC (Ago Are–Saki Link)–Okudi Oyada (Tede) Road in Atisbo and Saki West LGAs; the Adebayo-Alata-Obebe-Aba Oje Road (8.85 km) in Oluyole LGA; the 8.43 km Fasola Farm Settlement Road Network in Oyo West LGA; and the 21.96 km Oloko Oyo Junction–Ikere Road in Iseyin LGA.
Through sustained investment in rural access infrastructure, the Oyo State Government continues to strengthen agricultural value chains, improve market connectivity, and support long-term economic growth in farming communities across the State.
