Local Government Councils in Oyo Zone are implementing the Zero Potholes Initiative on critical roads within the zone. This initiative aims to ensure smoother and safer road networks, reduce travel time, enhance economic activities, and improve the residents’ overall quality of life.
Roads Completed Under the Zero Potholes Initiative
Several critical roads across Oyo East, Atiba, and Oyo West Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Oyo Zone have been reconstructed and rehabilitated to ease movement and promote local commerce.
In Oyo East LGA, the Durbar-Tengba-Oke Apo-Ilaka-Akeesan Road and the Aafin-Adeshina-Baago Road have been completed. Also, in Oyo East LGA, a light reconstruction was carried out on Agure Road. This is also completed.
The Ajayi Crowther Road-Adeshina Junction-Akeesan Road and the Bashorun-Agunpopo-Okeebo road, both in Atiba Local Government Area, and the Isokun-Sanga-Iyaji Road in Oyo West LGA (Sanga Bridge ongoing) are also roads covered under this Zero Potholes Initiative.
Ongoing Road Rehabilitation under the Zero Potholes Initiative
To further enhance mobility within Oyo Zone, rehabilitation is still in progress on other strategic routes: The Old Irepo-Owode Road (Dual Carriageway) in Oyo West LGA.
A well-maintained road network is vital for socio-economic development. By addressing the issue of potholes and deteriorating roads, the Local Government Councils in Oyo Zone are:
- Enhancing Safety – Well-paved roads reduce accidents caused by bad road conditions.
- Boosting Commerce – Traders and businesses can move goods efficiently, contributing to local economic growth.
- Reducing Travel Time – Faster commutes improve productivity and ease transportation for residents.
- Encouraging Investment – Improved infrastructure attracts investors and fosters business expansion.
A Commitment to Infrastructure Development
The Zero Potholes Initiative is part of the broader infrastructure development strategy by the Oyo State Government. This Zero Potholes Initiative, which began in Ibadan, is now in other Zones in the State. More roads across the State are undergoing rehabilitation and upgrades to ensure sustainable urban and rural development. With these projects progressing at a steady pace, residents and road users can expect continued improvements in road infrastructure, knowing that the foundation of a modern Oyo State is a proper road network.
