Operation Zero Potholes Initiative

The Oyo State Government, through the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA), commenced the ‘Operation Zero Potholes’ initiative in the Ibadan metropolis and its environs. While inspecting the roads being maintained, the chairman of OYSROMA, Mr Ogunlade Busoye Soladoye, said the ongoing initiative, which involves the rehabilitation of roads and the desilting of drainages is in response to feedback from the people of Oyo State. According to Mr Soladoye, it would ease traffic and create a better environment. Roads earmarked for rehabilitation include Molete-Fire-Challenge Road, desilting of blocked cover-lined drains and cross culverts at Genesis Hotel, and rehabilitation and desilting of Mokola-Dugbe Road and the Femi Johnson Junction along Oke-Ado Road, among others. Fake News Alert

The Oyo State Government flagged as “Fake News” rumours of a planned returning of government-run missionary schools to their original owners. Speaking on the matter, the Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barr. Rahman Abiodun Abdu-Raheem said that while the government developed a proof of agreement with the Incorporated Trustees of Government College Old Boys’ Association, it does not translate to returning all schools to their original owners. Commiseration Visit

The Oyo State Government visited the Bola Ige International Market, New Gbagi, to commiserate with traders who lost goods/properties to the fire outbreak. The team, led by the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry for Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives, Dr ‘Bunmi Babalola, commended the prompt response of the Gbagi Fire Service in arresting the fire. Dr Babalola also admonished traders to always take fire prevention measures seriously. (August 8, 2022)

Minor Cabinet Reshuffle

A minor cabinet reshuffle has seen two commissioners on the Oyo State Executive council swapped. Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye was reassigned to take charge of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, while Chief Mikhail Adebayo Lawal will now head the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives. Inspection Visit

The Water Corporation of Oyo State commenced inspection of Water Supply Scheme sites across the state. During the inspection, the Chairman of the Water Corporation of Oyo State, Mr Moruf Akinwande, said that the Oyo State government’s mandate is not only to provide potable drinking water in every household but also to provide an alternative power supply through gas turbine and solar-isolated power supply where necessary.  (August 9, 2022)

Waste Management: Stakeholders’ Meeting

The Oyo State Government and the new waste management consultants, Mottainai Recycling Ltd held a Waste Management Stakeholders’ Meeting at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat Ibadan, themed, ‘Zero Waste Zero Budget Initiative: Charting a New Course of Waste Management in Oyo State’. The meeting, which involved chairmen of local government areas, market men and women, artisans and others, was held to get the buy-in of these stakeholders on the new waste management architecture being rolled out to keep Oyo State clean. OYRTMA Impostors 

The Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) paraded four agency impostors. The suspects were acting as OYRTMA officials to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. Speaking on the development, the OYRTMA Chairman, Mogaji (Dr) Akin Fagbemi said the agency acted swiftly to multiple public complaints about being extorted by the supposed officials. Mogaji (Dr) Fagbemi said no unauthorised persons are allowed to put on OYRTMA official uniforms or use their logo. (August 10, 2022)

Amotekun Recruitment

The Oyo State Amotekun Corps commenced its recruitment exercise for four Local Government Areas in Ogbomoso. The screening exercise, which was held at the Soun Township Stadium in Ogbomoso, was mainly for – Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South, Oriire, Ogo-Oluwa and Surulere LGAs. It was part of the Oyo State Government’s mandate to strengthen security in the state. (August 10, 2022)
