A further update and pictures of the nearly completed development of an 11 MW hybrid power solution Independent Power Project (IPP), Oyo State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan. The Independent Power Project was awarded to Elektron Energy by the Oyo State Government. The project is estimated to be completed by Q2 2024.

The 11 MW Independent Power Project comprises 10 MW gas-fired power generation and a 1 MW PV solar solution. The ongoing Shell Gas Pipeline project will supply gas to the Oyo State Independent Power Project. When completed, the IPP will serve as the main power source for the tribrid power system of the Light Up Oyo project. The IPP will also serve the energy needs of various infrastructural facilities in Oyo State as outlined in Governor Seyi Makinde’s speech here.

The Oyo State IPP is part of the framework the Oyo State Government is putting in place to meet the energy needs of Oyo State. Other strategies to make Oyo State energy sufficient include: installing solar-hybrid mini-grids in rural communities, the Oyo State-Shell Nigeria Gas Limited Pressure Reduction & Metering Station (PRMS), the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission Law which is a major step towards ensuring improved electricity supply as well as policies, and seeking investors into the energy sector.

Since December 11,2021, eight months duration project has not been completed.
@SeyiMakinde is truly transforming the State.

    1. Hello, the project actually commenced in 2023 as there were delays with its take off after it was flagged off. As stated in the post, it will be completed this quarter.

    1. Hello, the next update for the 11MW IPP will be published when it has been completed this quarter. We will give an update on the bus terminals as requested. Thank you.

  3. I don’t think Seyi Makinde is serious with Oyo state electrification project. There’s no single sign of energizing homes in the state, no mention of the plant size, no periodic updates to Oyo state residents. I don’t believe he wants to embark on the project

    1. Hello, as stated in the post you commented on, the first phase of the 11MW IPP has been completed and will be commissioned soon. This IPP is meant to serve government facilities including schools, hospitals, the State Secretariat and streetlights.

      1. Thanks for the update. How can we know when the project has commenced? All we have been seeing are pictures of solar Panels online. Kindiki update us
