An update and pictures from the ongoing construction of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) at the 3000-hectares Oyo State Agribusiness Industrial Hub, Ijaiye, in Akinyele LGA.
The Zone will contain a processing centre under the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) programme, which is supported by the African Development Bank Group and other technical partners. The SAPZ programme promotes agricultural industrialisation by providing specific zones in agricultural communities with processing facilities for produce.
The SAPZ at the Oyo State Agribusiness Industrial Hub, Ijaiye, will be sited on 300 hectares.
The construction is being undertaken by Craneburg Construction.
Sitting on about 3,000 hectares of land, the hub is already being developed as an integrated agribusiness centre, with 2,400 hectares allocated for large-scale mechanised crop production and livestock ranching. There will also be a modern wholesale agri-food market at Ijaiye, modelled after the Rungis International Market in Paris.
The Oyo State Agribusiness Industrial Hub, Ijaiye, is strategically positioned as it is:
- Located about 16 km from the Chief Obafemi Awolowo Railway Station, providing access to rail infrastructure for moving agricultural products.
- Located about 17 km from a road linking parts of the Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road to Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, which is being upgraded to include cargo facilities.
- Road connections provide access towards Lagos, northern and western Nigeria, opening access to markets beyond Oyo State.
- The ongoing rehabilitation of the 37.1 km Alako-Idiya-Batake-Olowa-Ijaiye Farm Settlement Road is designed to strengthen direct access to the hub and make it easier to move agricultural products from surrounding production areas towards the hub.
Following the groundbreaking on 2 August 2025, construction has progressed on the site.
Current works include the construction of the administrative building, clinic and fire station, alongside the development of the other components of the hub.
As construction progresses, the Ijaiye Hub project represents another step in Oyo State’s efforts to create infrastructure that can support larger-scale agricultural enterprise, private-sector participation and value addition. A similar project, the Oyo State Agribusiness Transformation Centre, Fasola, is fully subscribed.
