An update and pictures of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, upgrade being executed by the Oyo State Government. Following the committee’s inauguration to upgrade the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan (formerly the Ibadan Airport), and the flagging off, work on the project has commenced.
The latest milestone in the ongoing upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, is the foundation stone laying for the new international terminal, marking the second phase of the upgrade. This terminal will increase passenger handling capacity from 100,000 to 1,000,000 annually. The project, which is being executed by Craneburg Construction Company, is to be completed by Quarter 1 2026. This second phase also includes upgrading the fire service station and car park.
The first phase of the project, which started on 18 September 2024, involved extending the runway from 2,400 to 3,000 metres to meet international standards and accommodate larger-bodied aircraft. This extension is projected to be completed by Q4 2025. It also included expanding the apron and upgrading the airfield lighting.
These upgrades to the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, position Oyo State as a key air travel hub, leveraging the growing southwest population and expected increase in air travel demand in the long term. The project is designed to transform the airport into a modern, world-class facility, enhancing travel experiences, boosting economic growth, attracting investments, and empowering the people of Oyo State.

The government of Oyo State through the indefatigable governor of the State is doing great on roads. I commend him for that.
However, there are still more areas to be done.
1. I live in All Saints College area in Agbofieti. The road from Baptist grammar school to Nigeria Wire and Cable is now terribly bad. The road is so bad that people can’t ride their vehicles into the streets because the road had gone too low due to years of grading. The road that connects the college to Con Oil in Owode, Apata serves about 13 communities, it’s so bad now that people can’t use it anymore.
These areas are under iddo LGA and the people are really suffering.
I want to appeal to the Governor to please remember us in the area.
During the time of Late Gov Ajimobi, he charged us 5m naira and All Saints College 15m as counterpart funding for the road which we paid. But to our surprise, the road began to fail right before the contractor left the site. Today the road has completely failed.
New communities are springing up daily in the area and they have no access road, no electricity, no school, no health center. Only one government pry school for the entire area located close to Baptist grammar school.
We sincerely beg the governor to stretch his hand of development to us in the area.
Thank you.
Goldy.
Thank you for contacting us. Your complaints will be forwarded to the appropriate authorities. Wire and Cable Road is one of the roads Governor Seyi Makinde mentioned would be fixed by his administration during his last media chat in December 2024.
