Governor Seyi Makinde announced that the facility would be revamped and made fully operational within 12 months during the inauguration of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital Governing Council on 8 December 2025.
Work officially resumed on site on 18 February 2026 and is progressing steadily, with overall completion currently at 35% as of 30 April 2026. The project is scheduled for completion in Q1 2027. The contractor is Sydam Concept Nigeria Limited.
The scope of the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Oyo annexe project covers the comprehensive rehabilitation of existing structures and the construction of new medical and support facilities to transform the annexe into a fully functional healthcare hub. This includes the rehabilitation of two blocks of the existing general clinic and administrative building, alongside the construction of an Accident and Emergency Unit.
Additional infrastructure being delivered includes male and female student hostels, staff quarters for medical personnel, a security gatehouse, a modern mortuary, a mini mart, and a restaurant. The project also incorporates internal road networks, a power house, and the provision of potable water and solar-powered security lighting.
To ensure uninterrupted operations, the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Oyo annexe facility will be powered through a dedicated 33kVA transformer supported by a 700kVA mini grid, alongside the provision of ambulances and full installation of medical equipment, including installation and training.
When completed, the hospital will feature a 200-bed male ward and a 200-bed female ward, laboratories including a chemical lab and blood bank, a pharmacy, an emergency unit, an intensive care unit, a maternity ward, a diagnostic centre, and consulting rooms for doctors and consultants.
The facility will also be equipped with modern medical equipment such as Slice CT scan machine, Tesla MRI, dialysis machine, ultrasound unit, echocardiogram machine, ventilator, and other critical care tools.
The upgrade of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Oyo annexe, is aimed at significantly strengthening healthcare delivery in the Oyo Zone by expanding access to quality medical services, improving emergency response capacity, and supporting the training and retention of medical personnel within the State.
