An update and pictures of the asphaltic rehabilitation of the 1.70 km (width 20.10 m) Molete Under Bridge-Idi Odo-Challenge Road, Ibadan South East LGA. The Oyo State Government is working on the rehabilitation of the Molete Under Bridge-Idi Odo-Challenge Road, a key arterial route that links Challenge to Molete in Ibadan, the State capital. This road is not just a local connector; it is a major inner-city corridor that supports daily commuters, traders, students, and public transport operators.

The road has a history of drainage issues with water collecting in pockets leading to the deterioration of the road. These drainage-related issues have been a major source of damage over time. In response, the current rehabilitation goes far beyond resurfacing.

The current project is being handled by Ratcon Construction Company Limited, with more attention to long-term resilience. The road has a completion timeline of 8 (eight) months. The asphaltic overlay is being laid after essential groundwork to address underlying structural issues.

The ongoing work includes the following:

• Clearing
• Scarification
• Removal of unsuitable materials
• Supply of filling materials
• Demolition of failed drainage and the construction of new lined drains
• Construction of box culvert
• Walkway/Median concrete
• Laying of kerbstones and edge reinforcements to maintain road shape and protect pavement edges
• Laying of lateritic sub-base materials
• Laying of 40 mm Asphaltic concrete binder course and a 40 mm Asphaltic concrete wearing course
• Road furniture

These steps ensure that water will no longer pool on the surface, a common cause of potholes and asphalt damage in the area.

The Molete Under Bridge-Idi Odo-Challenge Road connects markets and informal trading spots, as well as motor parks and transport terminals. Once completed, the improved road surface and upgraded drainage system will enhance the commuting experience, reduce traffic congestion, and improve safety for all users. Drivers are advised to exercise caution, follow posted signs, and cooperate with traffic officers on ground.
