An update and pictures of the ongoing construction, installation and distribution of a 12 MW Ibadan Independent Gas Power Plant and 30 KM, 33KV Transmission Line.

Work is ongoing on the construction, installation and distribution of the 12 MW Independent Gas Power Plant and 30 KM, 33KV Transmission Line in Ibadan, a strategic infrastructure project designed to strengthen power supply to critical public facilities within Ibadan.

The 12 MW Independent Gas Power Plant project, being executed by CCETC Taibu Power Company Limited under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, remains a key intervention aimed at improving electricity supply to essential government and public service institutions.

Once completed, the project is expected to add 12 MW to the State’s current available power supply within the next two months, bringing total available capacity to approximately 194 MW.

Beyond the generation plant itself, ongoing work also covers the installation of the 30-kilometre, 33KV transmission line, which will serve as the distribution corridor for the generated power across the designated service areas.

This infrastructure is being put in place to directly power public facilities, including:

  • Oyo State Government Secretariat
  • Government House
  • Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS)
  • St Peter’s Cathedral Church, Aremo
  • Customary Court, Iyaganku
  • Oyo State High Court
  • Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba
  • Adeoyo State Hospital, Yemetu, including its blood centre
  • Streetlights within the project corridor

The significance of the 12 MW Independent Gas Power Plant and 30 KM, 33KV Transmission Line lies in its direct impact on public service delivery.

Stable electricity to these locations will improve the day-to-day operation of government institutions, support healthcare services, strengthen security through improved street lighting, and ensure better functionality across key civic infrastructure.

As work progresses, the project also forms part of a wider effort to improve electricity access and reduce the impact of unstable power supply on public facilities and surrounding economic activity.

The State is also working in partnership with Shell Nigeria Gas in the area of gas distribution to support the operational sustainability of the plant.

Following the completion of this phase, an energy audit will be conducted to assess performance and determine the next stage of expansion, including the possibility of extending access to surrounding communities.

This ongoing project of a 12 MW Independent Gas Power Plant and a 30 KM, 33KV Transmission Line marks an important infrastructure milestone in strengthening power delivery, supporting critical institutions, and improving service operations in Ibadan, Oyo State.
