An update and pictures from the ongoing reconstruction of the Oja Oba Market in Ibarapa Central Local Government Area, Oyo State, under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP). The Oyo State Government, through RAAMP, is undertaking the upgrade of Oja Oba Market in Ibarapa Central Local Government Area, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen rural market infrastructure and support agricultural value chains. The contract for the upgrade was awarded to AB Bond Habitat Limited by the government.
The project is designed to improve trading conditions for farmers, traders, and buyers who rely on the market as a key hub for agricultural produce and everyday commerce within the Ibarapa axis. Market upgrades under RAAMP focus on creating more organised trading spaces, improving access within market areas, and supporting a more efficient environment for the exchange of goods and services.
By enhancing rural market infrastructure, the intervention will contribute to smoother movement of agricultural produce from farms to markets, helping reduce post-harvest losses while improving market accessibility for both traders and consumers.
The upgrade of Oja Oba Market forms part of broader infrastructure interventions being implemented under RAAMP across Oyo State. These efforts aim to strengthen rural connectivity and enhance the systems that support agricultural production, marketing, and rural livelihoods. Other key rural markets across the State being upgraded include the Oja Agbe Market in Iseyin LGA and the Olorunda Aare Alasa Market in Akanran (Ona Ara LGA). These markets, along with:
- the 8.43 km Fasola Farm Settlement Road in Oyo West LGA;
- the 21.96 km Oloko–Oyo Junction–Ikere Road in Iseyin LGA;
- the 37.1 km Alako–Idiya–Batake–Olowa Farm Settlement–Ijaiye Road in Ido LGA;
- the 6.82 km FRSC (Ago Are–Saki Link)–Okudi Oyada (Tede) Road in Atisbo and Saki West LGAs;
- the 4.73 km Tewure market-Ila Junction Road, Oriire LGA; and
- the 8.85 km Adebayo-Alata Obebe-Aba Oje Road in Oluyole LGA,
form complementary interventions designed to improve market access and strengthen agricultural trade.
Through projects such as the upgrade of the Oja Oba Market in Ibarapa Central LGA, the Oyo State Government continues to invest in infrastructure that supports local commerce, improves access to markets, and enhances the overall functioning of rural economies across the State.
