The construction of the 76.7km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road has commenced. The Oyo State Government awarded the project to two contractors. The first half of the road from Iseyin-Apewo Village (38.1km) with a 65m span bridge was awarded to Kopek Construction Ltd for N20.1 billion. While the second half from Apewo Village–Ogbomoso (38.57km) with a 45m bridge and underpass was awarded to Craneburg Construction Ltd for N23.4 billion.
The road will link the Oke-Ogun and Ogbomoso Zones of Oyo State. This is in keeping with the promise by Governor Seyi Makinde that his administration would focus on road projects which target Oyo State’s economy and links the five zones of the state to increase economic activities and stem rural-urban migration. Other major roads reconstructed/rehabilitated by the government which links zones in the state are:
Ibadan and Oke Ogun Zones – Moniya-Ijaiye-Iseyin Road (65km)
Oyo and Oke Ogun Zones – Oyo-Iseyin Road (34.85km)
Ibadan and Ibarapa Zones – Omi Adio-Ido-Eruwa Road (58km)
The Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road will also provide easy access between the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology campus in Ogbomoso and the Iseyin campus which hosts the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources.
The contract duration for the Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road construction is 15 months.
