An update and pictures of the ongoing rehabilitation of the 21.96 km Oloko Oyo Junction-Ikere Road, Iseyin LGA. Rehabilitation works are currently ongoing on the Oloko Oyo Junction–Ikere Road in Iseyin Local Government Area (21.96 km), marking another significant step in improving rural connectivity and agricultural value chains in Oyo State under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).
This rural road corridor plays a vital role in linking farming communities to urban markets. It is also the major access road leading to the Ikere Gorge Dam. Once completed, the project is expected to significantly improve the transportation of farm produce, reduce post-harvest losses caused by poor road conditions, and encourage agribusiness and other investments, which will boost rural enterprise development within the area.
The intervention aligns with Oyo State’s broader infrastructure agenda, which prioritises equitable development and economic inclusion across all zones of the State. By opening up this rural corridor, the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) is positioned to directly enhance food security, improve access to essential services, and expand livelihood opportunities for rural residents.
The rehabilitation works of the 21.96 km Oloko Oyo Junction–Ikere Road are being executed by Dephanny’s Venture Limited, and co-funded by the World Bank, the Oyo State Government, and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD).
The Oloko Oyo Junction–Ikere Road is one of six rural roads presently under construction across seven Local Government Areas through RAAMP. In total, the initiative is improving 87.89 km of rural roads spanning Atisbo, Ido, Iseyin, Oluyole, Oriire, Oyo West, and Saki West LGAs. Other roads are:
- The 4.73 km Tewure Market–Ila Junction Road in Oriire LGA
- The 37.1 km Alako–Idiya–Batake–Olowa Farm Settlement–Ijaiye Road in Ido LGA
- The 6.82 km FRSC (Ago Are–Saki Link)–Okudi Oyada (Tede) Road in Atisbo and Saki West LGAs
- The 8.85 km Adebayo-Alata-Obebe-Aba Oje Road in Oluyole LGA, and
- The 8.43 km Fasola Farm Settlement Road Network in Oyo West LGA
In addition to road construction, RAAMP is also upgrading rural markets to strengthen agricultural trade and market access. These include improvements at Oja Agbe Market in Iseyin LGA, Olorunda Aare Alasa Market in Akanran (Ona Ara LGA), and Oja Oba Market in Ibarapa Central LGA.
Together, these coordinated road and market interventions reflect the commitment of the Oyo State Government to improving rural access, strengthening agricultural productivity, and driving inclusive economic growth. By strategically investing in infrastructure that supports farmers, traders, and rural enterprises, RAAMP continues to play a vital role in transforming livelihoods and expanding economic opportunities across Oyo State.
