The administration of H.E Seyi Makinde has indeed transformed the state and improve the livelihood of everyone, the young, old, rich, poor..

Opening the state to investors, will create jobs and wealth and this administration has been doing that through infrastructural development.

It can only get better from here, may the next years be great.

Hopes for the Future

“Over the past 50 years, Oyo State has recorded notable progress in education, commerce, and urban development, especially with Ibadan remaining a major academic and economic hub. The establishment of institutions, road networks, and growth in agriculture and small businesses show steady development. However, this progress has been uneven, as poor infrastructure maintenance, unemployment, rural neglect, and inconsistent governance have limited the full potential of the state. While Oyo State has laid strong foundations, more transparent leadership and sustained investment are needed to translate its resources and human capital into broad-based development.”

“I hope the state realizes its full potential as the Pacesetter state. We have enormous potential in the areas of tourism, agricultural production, healthcare delivery, and education. For example, the potential of Eleyele Lake as a tourist point in the state – I grew up inside NIHORT Quarters between 1979 and 2001. I imagined how the lake could be turned into the Riviera of Nigeria with choice Hotels, restaurants, conference central, yacht ride, and choice real estate for all… In 1979, if you looked at the lake from afar, it was all bush and surrounded by hills. Successive governments in the state have not taken advantage of this choice landscape as a money spinner. This is just one of many unique tourist areas that can be transformed for the state to generate billions of naira in revenue every year.”

“As Oyo State marks 50 years of its creation, we celebrate more than a date in history – we celebrate a legacy of leadership, resilience, and distinction.

From its proud heritage as the intellectual and cultural heartbeat of the South-West to its enduring role in shaping Nigeria’s political, educational, and economic landscape, Oyo State has consistently stood as primus inter pares—first among equals in Nigeria.

Oyo has produced thinkers, builders, reformers, and institutions that have influenced the nation far beyond its borders. Our cities and communities have been crucibles of ideas, enterprise, and civic consciousness. Through seasons of challenge and progress, the spirit of Oyo—bold, principled, and forward-looking—has endured.

As we honour this journey, Oyo is on a path to a glorious future. A future defined by inclusive growth, innovation-driven development, strong institutions, and opportunities that unlock the full potential of our people – especially the youth. A future where Oyo State consolidates its leadership in education, agribusiness, technology, culture, and sustainable urban development. A future where governance is transparent, responsive, and anchored on shared prosperity.

Welcome to a new era!
An era of renewed ambition, deeper unity, and global relevance. With our rich heritage as a foundation and our collective will as momentum, the next chapter promises to be even more impactful than the last.

Congratulations to the Pacesetter State, the land of the great!”

“A Golden Tribute to Oyo State at 50

As Oyo State clocks 50 years of existence, I write with a heart full of gratitude, pride, and deep reflection. This golden jubilee is not just a celebration of time, but of resilience, heritage, and the unbreakable spirit of our people.

As an indigene of Oyo State and a proud son of Ibadan, I am honoured to be part of this historic journey. Oyo State has remained a land of culture, intellect, courage, and progress. From the strength of our ancestors to the brilliance of our scholars, artisans, farmers, leaders, and youths, our state has continued to stand tall as a beacon of excellence in Nigeria.

Ibadan, my home and pride, stands as a symbol of unity in diversity, a city of firsts, and a place where tradition meets modern aspiration. Growing up under its skies has shaped my values, my dreams, and my commitment to service. The lessons of hard work, communal living, and respect for heritage are gifts I carry proudly as a son of this land.

At 50, Oyo State reflects a story of challenges faced and victories earned, of dreams deferred and dreams realized. It is a reminder that while we honour our past, we must remain committed to building a future anchored on good governance, inclusive development, peace, and opportunities for generations yet unborn.

I celebrate all who have contributed to the growth of Oyo State—past leaders, present administrators, traditional institutions, and everyday citizens whose sacrifices often go unsung. our efforts are the foundation upon which our tomorrow stands.

As we look ahead, may Oyo State continue to rise in unity and purpose. May our land prosper, our people thrive, and our legacy endure beyond the next fifty years.

Happy 50th Anniversary, Oyo State.

“Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde
Molúyìn lógó ènìyàn fún ìṣẹ́ ribiribi àti ìṣẹ́ takuntakun tí ẹ ti ṣe.

Your Excellency,
I respectfully acknowledge and appreciate your exceptional leadership and selfless service to the good people of Oyo State over the past eight years. Your administration has truly transformed the state by redefining governance, setting new standards, and laying foundations for a lasting and people-centered legacy.

However, as we reflect on five decades of progress and look toward the future, one critical area still calls for urgent attention: water poverty. Evidence from thorough research shows that 74.2% of over 1,700 communities in Oyo State are still living in severe water poverty, as revealed by the SDG Target 6.1 Map here: https://target6.1map.management/index.html?country=&state=&localgov=&tags=&projectStatus=&projectID=&tabs=Map. This reality continues to affect public health, dignity, productivity, and overall quality of life across many rural and peri-urban communities.

Addressing this challenge presents an opportunity to secure a historic and enduring legacy, one that guarantees sustainable access to safe drinking water for present and future generations. Strategic collaboration with credible, community-rooted organizations that genuinely serve the people can make this vision achievable.

For over five years, I have closely followed Fairaction Nigeria, a committed organization working in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). Their experience, transparency, and readiness to scale sustainable water solutions position them as a strong partner in tackling water poverty across Oyo State.

As we celebrate 50 years of Oyo State, I humbly advocate for purposeful partnerships that place human dignity, equity, and sustainability at the center. Investing in water is investing in health, education, economic growth, and the soul of our communities.

I apologize I had to use this medium as several attempt proved abortive.

“I was born and raised in Oyo State, where I also received my elementary and advanced education. The most formative and memorable periods of my life unfolded there. My childhood and teenage years in the state shaped my values, outlook, and sense of identity.

I have explored Oyo State widely, from Ibadan to Oyo, from Ogbomoso to Òkè-Ogun, and back to Ibarapa. Each journey has deepened my appreciation of the state’s beauty and its prospects. Oyo State is richly endowed with history, culture, and abundant human and material resources.

Ibadan, the capital, stands as the intellectual headquarters of West Africa. The heritage of the old Oyo Empire remains a subject of study in universities across the world. While Òkè-Ogun and Ibarapa continue to sustain the state through agriculture, Ibadan, Oyo, and Ogbomoso are steadily emerging as modern urban centres.

What more could we be proud of?”

“TRIBUTE TO OYO STATE AT 50
As Oyo State marks its Golden Jubilee, I join millions of proud sons and daughters of this great state to celebrate a remarkable journey of resilience, progress, and promise.
I am particularly privileged to be counted among those whose lives have been profoundly shaped by Oyo State. From living and schooling here, to working, practicing law, and serving in various capacities, this state has been both my foundation and my inspiration. Oyo State gave me the platform to grow, to serve, and to contribute meaningfully to public life.
Over the years, I have had the honour of serving our dear state in different political and administrative capacities, including as Chairman, Community and Social Development Agency; Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources; PDP Legal Adviser, among other responsibilities. Each role deepened my appreciation of the enormous potential of Oyo State and the strength of its people.
At 50, Oyo State stands as a beacon of cultural heritage, intellectual excellence, political relevance, and economic promise. While we acknowledge the challenges encountered along the way, we must also celebrate the courage, industry, and unity that have sustained us through the decades.
As we look to the future, it is my earnest prayer that Oyo State continues on a path of steady growth, enduring peace, and inclusive development. May our institutions grow stronger, our communities more united, and our leaders guided by wisdom, justice, and service to the people.
Happy 50th Anniversary to Oyo State the Pacesetter State. May the next fifty years usher in greater prosperity for all.

“A GOLDEN TRIBUTE TO OYO STATE @ 50
Celebrating Legacy, Leadership, and the Pace Setter Spirit
Today, with deep gratitude to God and profound pride of place, I join millions of sons and daughters across the world to celebrate Oyo State at 50—five decades of heritage, resilience, excellence, and leadership. From her creation, Oyo State has never been ordinary. She was born with purpose, raised with vision, and crowned with distinction.
Oyo State is rightly called the Pace Setter State, not as a slogan, but as a fact of history. We are first in ideas, first in influence, and first in impact. From education to governance, from culture to intellect, from civil service to national consciousness, Oyo State has consistently set the rhythm that others follow. We are the cradle of intellectualism, progressive politics, and cultural depth. To come from Oyo State is not just an identity—it is a statement.
As we mark this golden milestone, we also celebrate inspired leadership. I sincerely commend His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, for seven years of visionary, people-centered, and transformational governance. His leadership has redefined governance in our state, anchored on transparency, competence, inclusiveness, and long-term development.
Under his administration, Oyo State has witnessed:
• Strategic infrastructural renewal across roads, education, health, and security
• Economic reforms that position Oyo as a destination for investment and innovation
• Restoration of public trust through accountable and data-driven governance
• Peaceful coexistence, stability, and respect for institutions
• A clear vision of continuity beyond politics—building Oyo, not just ruling it
Engineer Seyi Makinde has demonstrated that leadership is not noise, but impact; not slogans, but systems; not power, but service. His calm strength, engineering precision, and human compassion have left indelible marks on the fabric of our dear state.
I am profoundly proud to be from Oyo State—a land of firsts, a people of courage, and a future of possibilities. Proud of our past, confident in our present, and hopeful for our future.
As Oyo State clocks 50, I declare:
The next 50 years will be greater than the last.
The Pace Setter will keep setting the pace.
And Oyo State will continue to lead Nigeria with honour, wisdom, and excellence.
Happy 50th Anniversary, Oyo State!
Long live the Pace Setter State.

We are indeed grateful to God for the visionary governor he has given us who has transformed the landscape with infrastructure and laudable projects that are worthy legacy that can be bequeathed to the coming generation. The humane approach to governance of this administration is top notch. At 50 Oyo state has every reason to be proud of the great strides it has made. The educational sector is getting attention. Road construction is restoring confidence in intra state transportation and deliberate attempt to develop rural areas to keep people in our rural areas to farm and be prosperous all these with intentional humane approach to governance. My prayer is that the good Lord will give us another governor to continue the remarkable work of Governor Seyi Makinde so that Oyo state will not witness retrogression. “As Oyo State marks 50 years of existence, this milestone offers an important moment for reflection and forward thinking. As a concerned citizen, my hope for the future of Oyo State goes beyond celebration. I hope for sustained and inclusive development that genuinely reaches grassroots communities, strengthens local economies, and improves the quality of life for ordinary citizens.
Looking ahead, I envision an Oyo State where young people are empowered through access to quality education, skills acquisition, and meaningful opportunities to contribute to the state’s growth. A future where infrastructure, healthcare, and security continue to receive deliberate attention, and where policies are guided by continuity, accountability, and long-term impact rather than short-term gains.

I also hope for a future where government and citizens work together in shared responsibility — where leadership listens, and communities are not only remembered but actively included in development plans. As Oyo State steps into its next chapter, my prayer is that the progress made so far is strengthened, expanded, and sustained for generations to come.”

“At fifty, Oyo State stands tall as a living testament to history, courage, and purposeful progress. From the ancient grandeur of the old western region to her emergence in February 3, 1976 and to the current modern, vibrant, flourishing and prosperous Oyo State, our State has remained a beacon of leadership, learning, and enterprise in Nigeria.

Oyo State trajectory had been shaped by resilience in the face of challenges, wisdom drawn from rich traditions, and an unyielding spirit of innovation. As the cradle of many firsts and a melting point of culture and commerce, Oyo has consistently soared above her weight-producing great minds, nurturing industry, advancing infrastructure, and strengthening democratic values.

As we celebrate this golden Jubilee we give thanks to God for the past, honour the heroes who laboured selflessly, and salute the men and women who continue to write new chapters of excellence for the State.

In a special way and while not discountenancing the great strides of the previous administrations in the State, the current administration of HE, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, FNSE, D.Sc. GSSRS is eulogised for having geometrically lifted the bar of transformation of Oyo State from where he met it in May 2019. His policies on Internally Generated Revenue, Education, Road Infrastructure, Health, Security, Ibadan Airport Upgrade, Light-Up Oyo State to mention but a few are part of the giant strides that have launched Oyo State to her current enviable and prosperous status.

We pray that the next fifty years usher Oyo State into greater heights-an era of inclusive prosperity, sustainable development, peace and technological advancement. May our State continue to blaze trails in good governance, economic vitality, and tourist attraction among the States of Nigeria.

May Oyo’s Light shine brighter, her voice grow stronger and her legacy endure for generations yet unborn.”

Hopes for the Future

“I wrote this poem, I AM OYO, for the 50 year anniversary of Oyo State. Even though I’ve been told it won’t be part of the official celebrations as earlier agreed, I thought it was too special not to share after the days I spent bringing every word to life.

I AM OYO
The seat of the ancient Oyo Empire. The cradle of Yoruba heritage, where history, culture and ambition meet under the same sun.
I have watched centuries pass quietly, from the ancient throne of the imperial Alaafin in the ancient Oyo town, where Alaafin Lamidi Adeyemi and his forebears ruled with wisdom that shaped kingdoms and empires, to the bustling streets of Ibadan, my largest city. I have witnessed centuries unfold.
I remember standing as a child beneath the vast sky, listening to tales of kings and warriors, not knowing then that I was standing on the landscape of history itself. Today, I carry those stories in my bones.
My skyline rises boldly with Cocoa House, the tallest building in West Africa when it was built, standing as a monument to vision and progress, while countless brown-roofed houses stretch below, grounding my people in tradition and everyday life.
I am Oyo. incarnate fifty years of statehood, yet my roots are older than memory.

I Am Oyo
The Pace Setter State,
Where the first television station showed a nation it’s own face.
Where the first FM radio tuned voices into one song.
Where the first road carved paths for dreams to travel.
Where the first stadium taught hearts to beat together.
Where the first mosque lifted voices in devotion.

Where the first teaching hospital made knowledge a gentle healer.
And where the first university opened minds to the world beyond.
I am Oyo. I lead with humility,
I am the Pace Setter.

I Am Oyo
Where thirty-three stars rise from my soil. Each one a town, a village, a sacred place.
I am the fertile soil of Ogbomoso, Saki, and Iseyin, where farmers rise before dawn, planting not just cocoa, yams, and cassava but faith in tomorrow. I am the echo of Egungun festival drums in Oyo town, the voices of praise singers at palaces and the lively chatter of traders in Oja Oba Market, where the heartbeat of my people pulses with energy and determination.
From Dugbe to Bodija, my cities pulse with trade, scholarship, and aspiration, each street and building a testament to resilience, creativity and the harmonious confluence of ancient and modern.
I am Oyo. I am alive in every field, in every street, in every market, in every drumbeat, and in every dream that rises with the sun.

I am Oyo
I rise in Igbeti, where sixteen mountains sculpt a rare landscape, silently daring you to know my heights.
Agodi Gardens breathes life into quiet afternoons.
Ado‑Awaye Suspended Lake holds the sky in still water.
Mapo Hall hums with echoes of history.
And University of Ibadan Zoo whispers the wild to the mind.
I am the untamed spirit of Old Oyo National Park.
And the newly awakened Omololu Olunloyo Park.
Where culture play and memory converge.
I Am Oyo. Where land, history, and memory meet.

I Am Oyo
I am the dreams of students walking the corridors of the prestigious University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s first university, where minds and nations have been shaped since 1948, and the halls of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso, where innovation meets ambition.
I am the echo of learning from Emmanuel Alayande, where teachers are born not only to instruct, but to inspire.
I carry the dreams of students at Lead City and Ajayi Crowther, where ambition meets faith.
I am the classrooms of the Federal College of Education and the quiet dedication of scholars at the College of Forestry and the College of Animal Health, places where knowledge is not loud, but lasting.
I am the professor, the academic, the researcher. I am chalk-stained hands, open books, and hopeful eyes lifted toward tomorrow.
I Am Oyo. In every mind that learns, every hand that guides and every dream that reaches beyond the walls of the classroom.

I Am Oyo
Where Ewedu, Gbegiri, Eko, gently sprinkled with ground snail shells and Amala, born of cassava, are more than a dish.
They are inheritance and continuity, feeding the hands that till my soil, the minds that teach my children, and the shared memory of generations gathered around a humble meal.
I am Oyo. Where every dish whispers history. where heritage sits at every table.

I Am Oyo
I have watched healthcare personnel tend the sick, midwives cradle fragile lives. I have watched Youth Corpers arrive uncertain, yet leave transformed. I have seen students walk through the gates carrying dreams heavier than their bags.
I watch market women and bus conductors, engineers, nurses, teachers, farmers, Corpers, cleaners, artisans, civil servants, musicians, and doctors; all shaping me, sustaining me, and dreaming within me.
I am Oyo. Shaped by learning, sustained by resilience, and carried forward by minds that refuse to stop dreaming.

I am Oyo
I carry the prayers of the faithful at Mapo Central Mosque and Agodi Cathedral, the chants and supplications rising from the serene halls of the Chapel of the Resurrection on the campus of the University of Ibadan, the quiet devotion of worshippers at the Jama’at mosques and the heartfelt hymns from neighborhood chapels in Ibadan. I am the gratitude of families lighting lamps in memory of ancestors. I am the steady hands lifted in prayer at Eid, Christmas, Easter, and Ramadan, and the unbroken faith of generations who have shaped my land.
I am Oyo. And my soul is carried by devotion.

I am Oyo
I have watched over the hands and minds that steer my destiny, through seasons of change: military administrators who laid the groundwork and civilian leaders who carried my people forward.
Chief James Ajibola Ige, my first elected governor, brought courage and vision to justice and education. Dr. Omololu Olunloyo guided briefly, planting seeds of civic responsibility, while Chief Kolapo Olawuyi Ishola rekindled hope at the dawn of the Third Republic. Dr. Lamidi Adesina nurtured my universities, shaping generations with knowledge and ambition.
Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, now the incumbent Kabiyesi, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, strengthened my towns and infrastructure. Chief Christopher Alao Akala focused on health, education, and governance, bringing hope to villages and cities alike. Chief Abiola Adeyemi Ajimobi transformed my urban spaces, balancing culture and modernization.
And now, under His Excellency Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, I flourish. He builds with vision and care, investing in education, strengthening healthcare, and embracing technology and innovation. He attends to the needs of my teachers, clears the burdens of the past, and ensures that those who serve my people can do so with dignity.
Through them all; governors, kings, ministers, technocrats, local government leaders, civil servants, and palace aides, I have witnessed the challenges of leadership: roads unfinished, salaries delayed, dreams paused. These are not failures, but reminders that guiding a people is never simple. Even in difficulty, the hands that lead, the minds that plan, and the hearts that labour reflect resilience and dedication.
I am Oyo. And through every leader, past and present, I endure. I am leadership. I am legacy. I continue to rise with the vision and care of those who hold my people in their hands.
I am fifty years of statehood. I am a living story. I am a heritage in motion, and a promise for generations yet unborn.

I am Oyo
Not perfect, not finished, but an enduring legacy.
I am memory and movement.
I am struggle and promise.
I am fifty years of statehood, and far older in spirit.
I am Oyo, and my story is still being written…

“A TRIBUTE TO MY DEAR STATE: 50 Years of Progress, Honouring the Past, Inspiring the Future

Today, I join millions of proud sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora to celebrate Oyo State @ 50, a golden milestone that reminds us of our journey, our struggles, and our shared hope for a greater tomorrow.

As a bonafide son of Irawo-Owode, Atisbo Local Government, Oke-Ogun Zone under this great state, this celebration is deeply personal. Oyo State is more than a place on the map; it is our identity, our heritage, and the foundation upon which many of our dreams were built.

Over the past five decades, Oyo State has witnessed remarkable growth and transformation. I acknowledge and appreciate the past governors and administrations who, at different times, contributed positively to the development of the state. Their efforts in education, infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, civil service reforms, security, and economic development have left visible footprints that continue to shape our daily lives. History will remember those who served with vision, courage, and commitment to the people.

Today also presents an opportunity to appreciate the incumbent government under the leadership of His Excellency Seyi Makinde for the progress recorded so far. While challenges remain, as they always do in governance, I sincerely encourage the present administration to do even more in its remaining time in office. Let the final chapter of this tenure be marked by people-centered policies, inclusive development, accountability, and projects that directly improve the lives of ordinary citizens across all zones of the state.

May the current leadership choose to leave behind a legacy that inspires future political office holders. A legacy of service, integrity, and genuine love for Oyo State. Leadership is temporary, but impact is permanent.

As Oyo State turns 50, our collective prayer is for greater unity, sustainable development, youth empowerment, peace, and prosperity. May the next decades bring stronger institutions, purposeful leadership, and opportunities that allow every citizen to thrive.

Happy 50th Anniversary, Oyo State.
The pace-setter state —yesterday, today, and always.

God bless Oyo State.

With pride and honor,

“Oyo State is way beyond a place on the map to me. It is both my origin and the ground on which my sense of duty was formed. Oyo State remains the first quiet teacher of my instincts about work, order, dexterity and responsibility. To speak of Oyo at 50 is, in many ways, to speak of my own becoming.

Oyo State has given so much to my family and me. Education. Privileges. Pedigree. Struggles. All of it. And that is one of numerous reasons I remain indebted to always giving my all and my best to our dear Oyo State. The questions I ask today about food security, governance, state capacity, and national survival were first planted here. Ibadan, Iseyin, Ijaye, Akufo, Oyo. They grew from observing what works, what breaks, and what happens when our leadership either rises to its responsibility or retreats from it. Oyo gave me reasons to always ask better questions.

Happy 50th anniversary, Oyo State. May the next fifty years reflect the beauty of our history, our shared commitment and resolve to build a state and a country worthy of those who call it home.”

“A Golden Tribute to Oyo State at 50
As Oyo State celebrates 50 years of existence, my heart is filled with gratitude and pride to be part of this historic journey. This milestone is not just a celebration of years, but a celebration of growth, resilience, and visionary leadership.
Under the purposeful and people-centered leadership of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, Oyo State has truly been reshaped. His administration has created an enabling environment where young people can discover, develop, and showcase their talents without limitations. For many of us, this era has been a turning point.
Personally, Oyo State under Governor Seyi Makinde has transformed my life. Opportunities that once felt distant are now within reach. Through empowerment, support for youth innovation, and a commitment to inclusiveness, I found the courage and platform to grow. Today, I proudly stand as my own boss—self-reliant, confident, and hopeful—because this government believes in young people and invests in our future.
This leadership has shown that governance can be compassionate, progressive, and impactful. It has proven that when a government listens, supports, and plans with the people in mind, lives will inevitably change for the better.
As Oyo State clocks 50, I celebrate not just the past, but a promising future filled with endless possibilities for the next generation.

Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, for rolling out an inclusive Golden Jubilee programme that reflects the values, resilience, and cultural heritage of Oyo State. From the official flag-off at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, to the health outreach across all 33 local governments, cultural carnivals, symposium, religious services, youth recognition, women empowerment programmes, and the grand gala night honouring distinguished citizens, the celebrations truly mirror the spirit of unity and progress.

AOSG particularly applauds the forward-looking theme, “Consolidating the Legacy: Navigating the Present and Reimagining the Future,” which aligns with the collective aspiration of building a stronger, more prosperous Oyo State for future generations.

As Oyo State celebrates this golden milestone, we reaffirm our support for policies and leadership that promote good governance, inclusive development, and sustainable growth under the guidance of our principal, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly.

Happy 50th Anniversary, Oyo State!

Pride

“As a proud Ibadan indigene and dedicated supporter of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, I’ve poured my heart into this journey since 2019—campaigning, canvassing, mobilizing, and promoting his visionary leadership every step of the way.

I left my career behind in 2019 to join the movement ahead of the election, and witnessing the Omituntun transformation has made every sacrifice truly worthwhile. From extensive road reconstructions linking all zones, to agribusiness revivals at Fasola and the Eruwa Agribusiness Industrial Centre (now Oyo State Agribusiness Transformation Centre) creating jobs and empowering farmers; from the 11MW Independent Power Project delivering 24/7 power to the Secretariat and nearby communities, to healthcare upgrades across Primary Health Centres, education reforms slashing out-of-school children numbers, and security measures restoring lasting peace—Governor Makinde has delivered measurable, people-centered progress.

The economic boom is undeniable: visitor numbers surging to over 18,000 daily, hospitality thriving, and investor confidence soaring. As we proudly mark #OyoStateAt50 in this golden jubilee year—with legacy projects like the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport upgrade (first phase nearing completion), commitments to CNG mass transit, and a strong focus on inclusive and sustainable development—the momentum is unstoppable.

I’m more fired up than ever to keep campaigning, mobilizing grassroots energy, and promoting this people-first administration that has turned promises into performance across the economy, education, health, infrastructure, and beyond. Oyo is truly pacing ahead!

And before the end of Governor Seyi Makinde’s tenure, Inshallah I too will receive a letter of appointment, congratulations from him—recognizing the tireless efforts, unwavering loyalty, and invaluable contributions of dedicated supporters like me who have stood with him through it all.

Proud to be part of this historic journey.
Let’s keep the good work going strong together!

“‎As we celebrate Oyo@50 milestone, we celebrate a golden jubilee defined by the transition from stagnation to accelerated development and then sustainable development under the visionary leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde. His administration has focused governance toward the people, achieving excellent milestones in governance and infrastructure, and creating a thriving ecosystem that nutures the Pacesetter State.

‎We stand this moment in the flourishing era of Omituntun 2.0, an administration marked by sustainable development and the consolidation of impactful reforms and institutions for workers, students, and citizens altogether. It is our hope and prayer that the success of Omituntun 2.0 gives rise to the birth of Omituntun 3.0, where good governance and institutions remains a permanent reality for all citizens in Oyo State.”

“Òyó at 50 is not a number, it is testimony. From Ìbàdàn, I speak as kin, bound by soil, memory, and spirit. Òyó is ilẹ̀ ìtàn, a land where order preceded noise, where wisdom walked before power. Its walls were built not only of earth, but of ìwà, discipline, and communal purpose.
Fifty years on, the legacy endures, not by age, but by character. A people of depth, dignity, and direction.
At 50, Òyó reminds us that legacy is not inherited by age, but by action. May its future be guided by the depth of its past, and may its people continue to walk with dignity, clarity, and purpose. Kí Òyó máa bá a lọ ní ìtẹ́lọ́rùn, ní ìmọ́lẹ̀, àti ní ọlá. Àṣẹ.”

“Oyo at fifty is more than a celebration of years; it is a celebration of legacy, resilience, and enduring excellence. From the glory of ancient Oyo Empire to the vibrancy of a modern state, Oyo has remained a symbol of leadership, culture, and progress. This golden milestone reminds us that Oyo has never merely followed history, it has shaped it. Now, as we honour this moment, we pay tribute to the farmers who fed generations, the teachers who built minds, the leaders who served with vision, and the young people who carry the promise of tomorrow. The strength of Oyo has always been its people, resilient in spirit, rich in culture, and bold in ambition.
From Ibadan’s intellectual legacy to the royal heritage of Oyo town, from the industry of Ogbomoso to the pride of Oke-Ogun, Oyo stands as a powerful union of history and possibility. Like the ancient Iroko, Oyo remains firmly rooted, standing tall through seasons of change.
Hence, I celebrate not only Oyo’s past, but its future. May Oyo continue to raise giants, set standards, and inspire generations across Nigeria and beyond. Fifty years is not an end, it is the beginning of an even greater story.
Long live Oyo State.”

“It is a deep honour and pride to hail from Oyo State.
Truth be told, if I were not from Oyo State, I would probably be envious of those who are.
Having been privileged to visit many states across Nigeria, I can confidently say that Oyo State stands out,not just in history, but in character, culture, and the quality of its people.
Oyo State is rightly called the Pacesetter, and at 50 years, that identity remains strong and unquestionable. Our legacy speaks, our people inspire, and our future remains promising.
I am proud to be from Oyo State.

“I came to Oyo State in 2024 as a seed in search of soil; I found that the ‘Oyo State Dream’ is a harvest of grace and opportunity.

As a Corp member serving in the Ministry of Education, Office of the Permanent Secretary, under the leadership of His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde, I experienced firsthand a government that truly supports youth development. The additional 15k state allowance complemented the federal allowance and showed genuine commitment to our welfare.

When I arrived with no shelter, the warmth of the Oyo people embraced me.

Fifty years on, the mandate is clear. Honor the foundations. Protect the people. Scale progress with wisdom. The past speaks with authority, and the future calls for disciplined innovation.
Oyo State at 50 is not just a milestone. It is a reaffirmation of purpose, strength, and enduring relevance.”

The humane approach to governance of this administration is top notch. At 50 Oyo state has every reason to be proud of the great strides it has made. The educational sector is getting attention.

“Congratulations 🎉 to us all the pace setters. Oyo State @50.

I’m expressing my heartfelt appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde for his tireless efforts in driving progress and development in our beloved state.
Your leadership has brought notable improvements to our infrastructure, education, and healthcare systems. Your commitment to empowering we the youth, promoting peace and unity is truly commendable. Keep pushing the boundaries, keep innovating, and keep making Oyo State proud.

As Oyo State is celebrating 50years of existence, I take pride in showcasing one of its most treasured cultural treasures “Aso-Oke” . Aso-Oke is more than just a textile, it’s a symbol of Oyo’s rich legacy.
In Oyo State, Aso-Oke is a staple at festivals, ceremonies, and coronations. It’s a symbol of royalty, worn by kings and dignitaries to signify power and prestige. The fabric’s vibrant colors and patterns reflect the state’s vibrant culture and traditions.

Long Live Nigeria at large, Long Live Oyo State, Long Live Oke-Ogun..”

“Fifty years of Oyo State

A journey of growth, unity, and pride.
From the ancient roots of our culture
to the bright hopes of our youth,
Oyo has stood as a beacon of strength and identity.

Today, as we celebrate this landmark anniversary,

I feel grateful to be part of this heritage,
and even more grateful to be married to a son of this noble soil.

To be loved by someone whose heart belongs to Oyo
is to be connected to its history,
its values, and its spirit.

I am blessed to walk this path with him,
and to build our future together

Memories

“Last week Wednesday was a moment of pride for me as I joined the people of Oyo State to celebrate our culture, heritage, values, and heroes at Oyo State @ 50. From the vibrant Carnival at Mapo Hall to the electrifying Concert at Lekan Salami Stadium, it was history, unity, and joy in one experience.

Volunteering with the publicity team led by Hon. Jesugbemi gave me the chance to connect, grow, and see the power of youth involvement in shaping real development. Big appreciation to Mr. Jesse Onoriode & Aunty Bose for the guidance.

Hopes for the Future

With pride and honor,
Akeem Kolawole Popoola”

Some only knows the word by comic acronym: On Your Own
But we are not an acronym, we are a people, a culture, a nation, a lineage, an habitat
