International Youth Day 2024 Celebrations
The Ministry of Youth and Sports unveiled a week-long programme to mark International Youth Day 2024 in Oyo State. Activities included an awareness walk, prison visit, entrepreneurship seminar, novelty football match, boat cruise and special jumat and thanksgiving services. (12 August 2024)
Coronation
High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland and former Oyo State Governor received the title of Oba. Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, conducted the coronation ceremony at the new Olubadan Palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan. Acting Governor Barrister Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal attended the event. The Ibadan Chieftaincy Declaration of 1957 which was amended in 2023, mandates that candidates for the Olubadan throne must first be beaded crown-wearing kings. (12 August 2024)
Oyo SUBEB Interview Dates for Applicants
The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (Oyo SUBEB) has fixed Wednesday, 14 August to Monday, 26 August 2024 at 9 am each day as interview dates for applicants at the Oyo SUBEB Headquarters at Agodi, Ibadan.
The interview dates are as follows:
- Wednesday, 14 August 2024: Egbeda, and Atisbo Local Government Areas (LGAs).
- Thursday, 15 August, 2024: Akinyele, Afijio, and Ibarapa Central LGAs.
- Friday, 16 August 2024: Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Kajola, Ibarapa East, Ibarapa North, Lagelu and Iwajowa LGAs.
- Monday, 19 August 2024: Ido and Ibadan South West LGAs.
- Wednesday, 21 August 2024: Atiba, Oyo East, Oyo West, Surulere, and Ogo-Oluwa LGAs.
- Thursday, 22 August 2024: Ibadan South-East, Ibadan North, Ibadan North-East and Ibadan North-West LGAs.
- Friday, 23 August 2024: Oluyole and Ona Ara LGAs.

Empowerment
The Oyo State Executive Council approved N500 million as enterprise support to beneficiaries of the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness Project (YEAP). The fund is part of the Sustainable Actions for Economic Recovery (SAfER) programme to boost food security in Oyo State.
The government through the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA) is partnering with First City Monument Bank (FCMB), which will contribute an additional N1 billion, making the total support N1.5 billion. The OYSADA-facilitated YEAP has trained over 3,300 youths in modern agribusiness practices. (14 August 2024)
Recruitment of Health Workers
The Oyo State Primary Health Care Board is set to complete the recruitment process for over 3,000 healthcare workers which it started in 2021. Dr Muideen Olatunji, the Executive Secretary of the Board, announced that the job application portal will open in a week to complete the recruitment process. Applicants were advised to revisit the portal to check for CBT examination invitations. (15 August 2024)
Operational Vehicles for Security Agencies
The Oyo State Government handed over 50 operational vehicles to security agencies to enhance the protection of lives and properties. Acting Governor, Barrister Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal, distributed 40 patrol vans to ‘Operation Burst’ while the remaining 10 vehicles were shared between the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigerian Army, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC); Nigerian Air Force, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC); and Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA). The Acting Governor stated that additional vehicles would be allocated to security agencies in all zones to further improve security in the State. (15 August 2024)
Soil Testing in Oyo State
The Oyo State Government launches digital soil testing in 100 agrarian communities in the State. Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development during his address at the flag-off ceremony of the initiative held at the Otiri Village, Ipapo/Iseyin Farm Settlement along Ipapo/Saki Road, noted that the State Government understands the crucial roles that farmers play in ensuring food safety and sustainability of agriculture in the State, this soil testing will assist farmers in identifying healthy soils and what crop types to plant in these soils to enhance productivity, profitability and increased farm yield. Training on Artificial Insemination
The Oyo State Government has trained 100 state livestock farmers on artificial insemination under the World Bank-assisted Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES). The training which lasted for four days in two batches (between 12 – 16 August 2024), aims to arm State Level Officers and Livestock Entrepreneurs with modern technologies and techniques to improve livestock management. Dr. Debo Akande, Executive Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Agribusiness International Development and Cooperation, stated that by adopting advanced reproductive technologies, the quality and quantity of beef and cow milk production is improved, making it more affordable for residents. The training is part of OYSADA’s broader agribusiness policy, supported by the World Bank, to address rising beef prices and improve livestock productivity.
