Oyo Government Condemns AG’s Arrest
The Oyo State Government condemned the recent arrest, questioning and detention of the Oyo State Accountant General, Alhaji Gafar Bello, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In a statement released by the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, the actions of the anti-graft agency were termed as unconstitutional and ultra-vires. Illegal Institution Closed
The Oyo State Government directed the immediate closure of the Oke-Ogun College of Management Sciences and Technology in Iseyin. According to the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barr. Rahman Abiodun Abdu-Raheem, the institution was closed for not complying with registration procedures. Barr. Abdu-Raheem enjoined school proprietors to always do the right things in their bids to establish schools. He further stated that doing this will enable the state and the proprietors to avoid unnecessary embarrassment. (March 1, 2022)
Road Inspection
The Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Prof. Dahud Shangodoyin, inspected the 5.2km Gedu-Sabo-Oroki-Asipa Road in Oyo Town and certified it completed. Prof Shangodoyin disclosed during the inspection that the contractor fulfilled all the requirements given to him. He further stated that the only thing delaying the commissioning is desilting the drainage and road markings. (March 1, 2022)
Technical Working Group
The Oyo State Government inaugurated the Technical Working Group for the Oyo Road Safety Advisory Council. The role of the Technical Working Group is to ensure uniform standards on traffic enforcement, vehicle inspection, road signs and markings, personnel training and rescue administration. The Chief of Staff and Chairman of the Oyo State Road Safety Advisory Council, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, announced Engr J. A. Ajayi from the Ministry of Public Works and Transports, as the Chairman of the Technical Working Group. (March 2, 2022)
COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (CARES) Programme
The Oyo State Government commenced the second wave of the Rapid Response Register COVID-19 Cash Transfer programme in the state. In a press statement, the Honourable Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, said the Rapid Response Register was designed to capture the urban and semi urban poor individuals in the seventeen Local Government areas of Ibadan who are adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Affected persons were admonished to register for the exercise using the code 969 during the period allotted for the registration. Successful applicants are to be paid a monthly stipend of five thousand naira to help cushion the effects of the pandemic. (March 2, 2022)
Player Selection Completed
The Water Corporation of Oyo State (WCOS) completed the selection of members of the Corporation Football Club. 300 players applied out of which 35 were selected. According to the Chairman of Water Corporation of Oyo State, Dr. Adebayo Adepoju, the trial selection lasted for two weeks. The Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Engr Seun Fakorede attended the final trial. He commended the players and charged them to be committed to the goal of the team. (March 3, 2022)
Tennis Tournament
The second edition of the GSM Tennis Championship has ended. The four-day tournament was held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba. Isiaka Toriola and Deborah Abiodun won the senior (men and ladies) categories while Mubarak Ganiyu and Imole Ayo Afolabi won the junior (boys and girls) categories. The winners and runners up in the senior categories went home with cash prizes, while the winners and runners up in the junior categories went home with education grants and tennis equipment. All other participants were also given gifts. (March 03, 2022)
Announcement
The Office of Oyo State Human Capital Development (HCD) in collaboration with Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA) and National (HCD) Core Working Group is organising a one day stakeholders engagement meeting with Civil Society Organisations. The event themed- ‘Promoting More Effective Collaborative Strategies,’ will take place on Thursday, 10th March 2022 by 10 am at the House of Chiefs, Oyo State House of Assembly, Secretariat, Ibadan.
