Resettled
The Oyo State Government resettled beggars from Jemibewon Road, Sabo, Ibadan, to the newly built Akinyele Resettlement Centre. The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Barrister Idowu Oyeleke, led the first set of beggars to the centre. A visit to the centre showed that it is equipped with social amenities, including schools, hospitals and recreation centres. The Ministries involved in the relocation exercise include The Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters and the Office of the Executive Secretary, Oyo State Security Trust Fund. The Commissioner for Health, Dr Bashir Bello, hosted an advocacy team on National Guideline on Self-Care for Sexual, Reproductive and Maternal Health in Nigeria at the Ministry of Health, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan. During the meeting, Dr Bello revealed that the authorities are working hard to provide an environment that would reduce maternal mortality in Oyo State. He also said the state government would continue to take action and create policies that will improve the health of residents of Oyo State. (June 16, 2021)
COVID -19 Testing
The Oyo State Government began administering free COVID-19 tests using the rapid diagnostic test kits that provide results within one hour. The Incident Manager of the COVID-19 Emergency Operations Centre, Dr. Taiwo Ladipo, said 8,700 tests had been done in the last six weeks at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Iseyin, and at the University College Hospital, Ibadan using the kit. He said that some of the 150,000 diagnostic test kits assigned to Oyo State had been distributed to communities across the state. He outlined six centres where residents could do their tests. These centres include Idi Ogungun Primary Healthcare Centre and State Hospital, Oyo. (June 17, 2021)
Iwo Road Mayhem
Governor Seyi Makinde visited Iwo Road, Ibadan in the wake of the incident that claimed lives on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. During the visit, he assured the people that everyone culpable in the killings would face the full wrath of the law as investigations into the case had begun. He also promised to clean up the area behind Iwo Road where cultists meet. He further stated that his administration would review the Park Management System and compensate the phone sellers who lost properties. (June 17, 2021)
