Oyo State, Safe for Investors

Governor Seyi Makinde assured foreign and local investors of a secure environment in Oyo State, emphasising that the State is one of the safest in Nigeria. In an interview with CNBC Africa at the Intra-African Trade Fair in Cairo, Governor Makinde highlighted Oyo State’s investment in security, vast landmass, good road infrastructure, mineral deposits, and tourism potentials. Governor Makinde expressed enthusiasm regarding an agreement with AFREXIMBank and Access Bank, enabling Oyo State to access a part of a 500 billion Naira facility for infrastructure development, along with other subnationals. His Excellency also emphasised the State’s commitment to agribusiness, tourism, and mining, presenting numerous opportunities for investors. (14 November 2023)

Ibadan Roads Reconstruction

Governor Seyi Makinde announced plans to award contracts to reconstruct internal roads in Ibadan. The announcement was made during the commissioning of the Bond Mall, Ring Road, Ibadan. The projects, set to commence in the next few weeks, include the complete reconstruction of two major highways: Challenge-Ring Road to Mile 110 Junction and Beere-Yemetu-Bodija-University of Ibadan Road. Governor Makinde emphasised his administration’s commitment to addressing the concerns about internal roads in Ibadan after successfully linking all the zones of the state with road infrastructure. His Excellency also pledged ongoing support for investors by providing the necessary infrastructure for business growth. (18 November 2023)

Delegation of Duties

Governor Seyi Makinde delegated the oversight of the Ministries of Culture and Tourism, Establishments and Training, and Special Duties to Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal. Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, formerly the Chairman of the Oyo State Housing Corporation, will be guiding the named ministries on their various mandates. This decision was taken at the State’s Treasury Board Meeting. (22 November 2023)

The Oyo State Ministry of Health organised a 2-day retreat for qualitative healthcare delivery. The retreat, which was held at Iris Gold Hotel, Ring Road, Ibadan, was attended by all the accounting officers of all health agencies, boards, institutions and development partners in Oyo State. Observations made during the meeting ranged from a need to strengthen the synergy among various health institutions in the State to a need to review the current Public Private Partnership (PPP) in drug services, amongst others. Key of the resolutions made was that all the stakeholders in healthcare are to improve their working relationship for effective service delivery towards the realisation of the mandate of Omituntun 2.0 on health. Announcement

The Oyo State Government mandated the enrolment of commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators with the Oyo State Residents’ Registration Scheme before 31 December 2023. The directive was issued by Governor Seyi Makinde following a Security Council Meeting on 22 November 2023, stating that the decision aims to address challenges linked to these operators for enhanced security in the State. Recall that the registration began under Omituntun 1.0, with the commercial transport segment already ongoing across close to 50 Centres in motor parks and motorcycle (okada) parks in the State. Effective January 1 2024, unregistered motorcycle or tricycle operators will not be permitted to operate in the State. (22 November 2023)
