Gratuities

The Oyo State Government paid over N1 billion as gratuities to 368 pensioners in the fourth quarter of 2021. The Chairman of the Local Government Staff Pensions Board, Prince Adebayo Adeyemi, revealed this during the payment of gratuities to retired local government staff, primary school teachers, and next of kin of deceased pensioners across the state’s 33 local government areas in Ibadan. Flag Off

The Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Douye Diri officially flagged off the reconstruction of the 34.85km Oyo-Fasola-Iseyin Road. The federal road, which the Oyo State Government is reconstructing, was awarded to Kopek Construction Ltd on June 29, 2021. The total contract sum for the project is N9,995,422,263.44, and the expected date for completion is July 2022. (December 16, 2021)

Culture and Tourism

The Oyo State Government collaborated with Iseyin weavers to hold the Aso-Ofi Day in Iseyin. The festival, attended by the First Lady, Engr Tamunominini Makinde and the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, among other dignitaries, featured a rally, fashion show and presentation of awards. Speaking during the event, Mrs Makinde encouraged the weavers to maintain the high quality of Aso-Ofi products they have been associated with. She also said that the festival would continue to be used to promote the heritage and cultural values of Oyo State. (December 16, 2021) 

Road Dualisation

A former Governor of Oyo State, Dr Omololu Olunloyo, flagged off the dualisation of the 3.2 km Ibadan Airport Road, rehabilitation/construction of adjoining access roads and rehabilitation of spur roads around Iwo Road Interchange. The project which has a total scope of 10.8km was awarded to Kopek Construction Ltd for N4.9 billion. It is expected to be completed in six months. When completed, the Ibadan Airport Road will be renamed Omololu Olunloyo Road. (December 16, 2021)

Stakeholders’ Meeting

Governor Seyi Makinde met with traditional rulers, heads of security agencies, local government chairpersons and vice-chairpersons to discuss governance issues in Oyo State including the economy and security. Governor Makinde thanked all stakeholders for their contributions towards ensuring that the people of Oyo State enjoy good governance and promised his administration’s support for this to continue.
