Relief Distribution
The Oyo State Government, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), distributed relief materials to 520 victims of flood disaster in Kajola and Iwajowa Local Government Areas. The Oyo State Government was represented by Alhaji Lateef Yusuf, Senior Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor on Political Matters in lieu of Deputy Governor, Engr Rauf Olaniyan. He said the Oyo State Government is committed to its agenda of improving the lives and living conditions of citizens. (December 10, 2020)
Gratuities Update
The Special Adviser on Labour Matters, Mr Bayo Titilola-Sodo, disclosed that the Oyo State Government has spent N7.5 billion in settling the gratuities of pensioners in the past 18 months. He stated this at the celebration of Pension Day organised by the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Oyo State branch. (December 11, 2020)
Official Visit
Governor Seyi Makinde received a delegation of traditional rulers from the Republic of Benin; the Alaketu of Ketu Kingdom, Oba Adejumo Adesina and the Onimeko of Imekoland, Oba Benjamin Olanite Ilufemiloye. The delegation was led by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III. Governor Seyi Makinde restated his commitment to strengthening the cultural and economic ties between Oyo State and the Republic of Benin. (December 14, 2020)
Security Infrastructure
The Oyo State Government procured 33 additional operational vehicles and 396 motorcycles to enhance the operations of the Western Nigeria Security Network, code-named Amotekun. The 351 wards in Oyo State will get one motorcycle each, while 45 motorcycles will go to the Amotekun headquarters. (December 15, 2020)
Mild Cabinet Reshuffle
Governor Seyi Makinde swore in Alhaji Ayansiju Lawal as the Commissioner for Establishments and Training. Prof. Daud Shangodoyin moved from Establishments and Training to Public Works, Infrastructure and Transportation. (December 15, 2020)
Draft Bill
The Oyo State Executive Council approved a draft bill to reflect the new ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso. According to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof Oyelowo Oyewo, the pre-existing laws that applied to the institution during the joint ownership with Osun State will be repealed. Courtesy Call
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo paid a courtesy visit to Governor Seyi Makinde while attending a book launch in Ibadan. Governor Makinde seized the opportunity to share some of the state’s infrastructural development projects with him. (December 17, 2020)
E-governance Infrastructure
The Oyo State Government procured 1,108 computer systems to be distributed to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state. In furtherance of the e-governance plans, Governor Seyi Makinde stated that his administration deployed high-speed internet and intranet connectivity across all MDAs in the secretariat. Structures are also in place for the implementation of statewide productivity and collaborative tools, official emails and capacity building for all civil servants. (December 17, 2020)
Up Coming Sporting Event
The GSM Tennis Championship, an annual event to discover new talents in tennis, is scheduled to hold from the December 22-24, 2020, at Ibadan Recreation Club. Speaking about the event, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Honourable Tobi Oyewumi, said that the competition will be divided into three categories, junior, pro and super veteran categories. The junior category is for children under fourteen years. The pro category will be is open to all tennis players, and the super veteran category for senior citizens above sixty years.
