CIarb conference holds as enforcement of environmental laws begin

Oyo State begins the enforcement of environmental laws against indiscriminate waste disposal on Friday, November 5, 2021.

Governor Seyi Makinde wins the Leadership Excellence Awards’ 2021 Governor of the Year Award in Security and Youth Empowerment.

Ministry of Establishments and Training holds a one-day in-house sensitisation workshop for drivers and mechanics in the state public/civil service.

Merit Award

Governor Seyi Makinde won the Leadership Excellence Awards’ 2021 Governor of the Year Award in Security and Youth Empowerment. Governor Makinde was represented at the award ceremony by his Chief of Staff, Honourable Segun Ogunwuyi. He dedicated the award to the resilient and innovative youths of Oyo State. He also noted that his administration’s efforts in tackling youth unemployment and insecurity have been yielding positive results. (November 3, 2021)

Workshop

The Ministry of Establishments and Training held a one-day in-house sensitisation workshop for drivers and mechanics in the state public/civil service. The Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Alhaji Siju Lawal, explained that the workshop was necessary, following a series of reports and complaints of gross misconduct and non-compliance with traffic rules and regulations against the civil and public service government vehicle drivers.
He, therefore, cautioned the drivers to shun reckless driving, the attitude of no respect for other road users and non-compliance with traffic rules and regulations. Alhaji Lawal stated that the government will not hesitate to deal decisively with such misdemeanour in line with the extant provisions of the civil/public service. (November 4, 2021).

CIArb Conference

Governor Seyi Makinde declared open the 2021 Annual Conference and Gala Night of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Nigeria Branch (CIArb Nigeria). At the event, Governor Makinde noted that Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) will reduce the stress on Nigerian Courts, as it is in the best interest of all concerned to find alternative, yet legal, ways of speeding up the process of dispute resolution. He also said that the innovative use of the ADR process can improve the effectiveness of the overburdened judiciary. (November 4, 2021)

Proposed Partnership

The Association of Nigeria Theatre-Arts Practitioners (ANTP) and the Tunde Odunlade Arts and Culture Connexions proposed a partnership with the Oyo State Government to promote Yoruba cultural values in the state. In separate meetings with the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun they discussed moves to consciously promote Oyo State’s rich cultural and tourism potentials using their art. Enforcement of Environmental Laws

The Oyo State Government will begin enforcement of the law against indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roadsides, waterways, drainages and other open spaces from Friday, November 5, 2021. A statement signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr Abiodun Oni, noted that the recalcitrant attitude of residents towards waste disposal necessitated the action, stressing that the era of indiscriminate dumping of refuse and open defecation had come to an end. He added that perpetrators would be sanctioned and dealt with according to the environmental laws of Oyo State. (November 4, 2021)

Courtesy Visit

Governor Seyi Makinde received the new Ambassador of France to Nigeria, Her Excellency Emmanuelle Blatmann, who led her team to pay him a courtesy visit in Ibadan. During the visit, Governor Makinde outlined some of Oyo State’s partnerships with the French Government including the proposed construction of an International Farmers’ Market at Akufo. He said his administration would continue to put in the work to make Oyo State the number one investment destination in Nigeria. (November 5, 2021)
