42nd Olubadan’s Coronation Date Set

Governor Seyi Makinde has approved March 11, 2022, for the coronation ceremony of Senator Lekan Balogun as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan. The date was approved in a circular issued by the Office of the State Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs with Ref No: CB 211/10/155. (February 22, 2022)

Shops Sealed

The Oyo State Government has sealed 80 shops at Sango, Ibadan, over indiscriminate dumping of refuse on road meridians. The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr Abiodun Oni, stated that the enforcement exercise was necessary to ensure shop owners and companies comply with environmental sanitation law. Mr Oni urged residents to refrain from indiscriminate refuse disposal on road meridians, and patronise licensed refuse contractors designated to their respective areas. (February 24, 2022)

Implementation of VAPP Law

The Oyo State Government has commenced implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law. At the public presentation of the VAPP Law in Ibadan, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, said the law would reduce the equality gap between all genders as well as cut down the country’s very high incidents of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) which disproportionately affects women and girls. Impact awards were presented to Governor Seyi Makinde, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, and Hon. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji – the Chairman, Oyo State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs and Community Development, for the roles they played to ensure the gazetting of the law. The First Lady, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, who received Governor Makinde’s award, said Oyo State had set the pace again, by being among the foremost states to pass, assent, gazette and commence the implementation of VAPP Law.
