Research Supporting African MSMEs to Provide Safe and Nutritious Food (RSM2SNF) project.
The Oyo State Government partnered with Michigan State University, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and other stakeholders on a new agribusiness research project targeted toward micro, small and medium-sized entrepreneurs (MSMEs) in the state. The Nigerian leg of the five-year (2022-2026) Research Supporting African MSMEs to Provide Safe and Nutritious Food (RSM2SNF) project was recently launched in Oyo State in Ibadan. Speaking at the event, the Director-General of the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), Dr Debo Akande, shared some of the steps the Oyo State Government has taken to develop the agricultural sector in the state. He also said agribusiness played a big role in moving the state from the 13th position to the 6th position in the National Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) ranking within three years. The project will focus on research into the midstream of fish and tomato food value chains.
School Inspection
The Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Barr. Rahman Abiodun Abdu-Raheem inspected Community Grammar School, Apapa, Moniya, Akinyele Local Government Area. During the visit, Barr. Abdu-Raheem directed that SS1 and SS2 classes be moved to the facility of Saint Andrew’s Primary School, Ojemo, while the school undergoes reconstruction. (May 22, 2022)
Oyo Sports Council Chairman Attack
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Engr. Seun Fakorede, visited the Oyo Sports Council Chairman, Mr Gbenga Adewusi in the hospital where he was receiving treatment. Mr Adewusi was attacked by fans at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba after the game between Shooting Stars Football Club and MFM Football Club. During his visit, Engr. Fakorede stated that Mr Adewusi’s attackers would be brought to book. He said the incident was unfortunate and declared that measures would be taken to forestall future occurrences. (May 24, 2022)
PDP Gubernatorial Primaries: Governor Seyi Makinde Gets Ticket
Governor Seyi Makinde won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial primary election which was held at the tennis court of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan. Governor Makinde got a total of 1,040 votes from the PDP delegates from all 33 local government areas in Oyo State. Speaking at the event, he expressed gratitude to the delegates for their trust and continued support. He also listed some of his promises made and kept and pledged to do even more if given another term. (May 25, 2022)
Conversion of 730 Civil and Public Servants
The Oyo State Government approved the conversion of 730 civil and public servants in the State. According to the Chairman, Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Kamoru Abíọ́dún Adéríbigbé, the conversion process which he described as the first of its kind, cuts across 92 cadres and was conducted in line with the template of merit and competence introduced by the Governor Seyi Makinde led administration. Alhaji Adéríbigbé thanked Governor Makinde for his commitment to the welfare of Oyo State workers and pensioners and urged the newly converted officers to discharge their duties diligently. Oyo State Residents Registration
The Oyo State Government has commenced the registration of all residents in the state. Oyo State residents can now visit any of the free registration points in their local government areas for registration. Registration points also include:
- The Accountant General’s office
- Auditor General for Local Government’s office,
- Ministry of Health,
- Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism
Individuals seeking registration must come with their voter’s card or driver’s licence as a valid means of identification. (May 25, 2022)
