A final update and pictures from the completed University of Ibadan Junction Improvement work. The Oyo State Government has completed the University of Ibadan Junction Improvement project.
The project, awarded to Messrs Planet Projects Ltd, forms part of Phase 2 of the Oyo State Junction Improvement Works, which focuses on upgrading strategic road intersections across the State. The junction improvement at the University of Ibadan follows the earlier completion and commissioning of similar projects at Agodi Gate and Idi Ape Civic Centre, both of which were commissioned on Friday, 22 March 2024.
The University of Ibadan Junction project was officially commissioned on 12 November 2025. Since then, the improved junction has been fully opened to the public and is already delivering measurable benefits to road users.
The University of Ibadan Junction Improvement includes the following infrastructure upgrades:
- Well-defined pedestrian walkways to enhance safety for foot traffic
- Modern traffic signs and signals to regulate vehicular movement
- Improved drainage systems to prevent flooding and road damage
- Designated lay-bys for taxis and motorcycles, reducing roadside obstruction
- Other supporting infrastructure designed to improve road efficiency and durability
These features were carefully planned to ensure not only smoother vehicular movement but also improved safety and convenience for pedestrians and public transport users.
Since completion, the junction has recorded a noticeable reduction in traffic congestion, especially during morning and evening peak periods. The improved road layout and traffic management measures have helped eliminate the long-standing bottlenecks that previously characterised this axis.
The project has also contributed to improved travel time, better road discipline, and a more organised transport environment around the University of Ibadan and its surrounding communities.
The completion of the University of Ibadan Junction Improvement Works underscores the Oyo State Government’s commitment to sustainable urban development, efficient transportation systems, and improved quality of life for residents.
Residents and road users are encouraged to continue using the infrastructure responsibly and adhere to traffic regulations to ensure the long-term effectiveness of the improvement.
