Saudi Arabia’s Government Visits
Governor Seyi Makinde received delegates from the Saudi Arabian Government led by the Head of the Arabic Language Department, Umm Al-Qurra University, Makkah, Prof Hassan bin Abdul Hameed Bukhari, who paid him a courtesy visit in Ibadan. Governor Makinde reassured the Saudi Government that the Oyo State Government works to ensure that the state remains peaceful for all residents, visitors and a secure place for investors. He reiterated his administration’s stand on the continued promotion of religious tolerance and harmony without religious sentiment. Prof Bukhari was in Ibadan to attend a workshop on peaceful coexistence among religious bodies for judges and lecturers which was held at the University of Ibadan. He presented Governor Makinde with the special recognition award of the Umm Al-Qurra University, for his good deeds towards Islam. (March 07, 2022)
Erosion Control
The Oyo State Government approved the commencement of erosion control projects in seven local government areas prone to erosion in the state under the Oyo State Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), a World Bank Assisted project. The communities include: Olusoji/Alaro stream, Oluyole in Ibadan South West Local Government Area (LGA); Ahoyaya stream, Olodo in Egbeda LGA; and Ologogoro/Oremoje in Iseyin LGA. Others are Orogun stream in Saki West LGA; Isunwin stream, Isale Alaafin High School, Oyo in Atiba LGA; Iwagba/Agbonyin stream in Ogbomoso North LGA; and Aborerin stream, Eruwa in Ibarapa East LGA. At a meeting with community leaders and other stakeholders in various benefiting communities, the project coordinator, Engr. Omowunmi Yakub, disclosed that the Oyo State Government approved the desilting and clearing of waterways in all the mapped sites of seven LGAs in the state. Engr. Yakub encouraged residents of the concerned communities to cooperate with project contractors to ensure that the work is carried out within the stipulated time frame without interference. Computerised Vehicle Inspection System
The Oyo State Government unveiled a new computerised vehicle inspection system to check accident occurrences on highways in Idi Ape, Ibadan. Speaking to journalists in Ibadan, the Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Prof. Dahud Shangodoyin, stated that the new system would enable a thorough examination of all mechanical, electrical, and structural flaws in the vehicle to repair them as soon as possible. He added that it would also allow car owners to check the status of their vehicles before driving them on the road to prevent road accidents commonly caused by faulty vehicles. (March 08, 2022)
Olubadan Coronation
Governor Seyi Makinde presented the Certificate of Instrument of Office and Symbol of Authority to Oba (Dr) Mohood Olalekan Ishola Balogun Alli, Okumade II, in confirmation of Part II Recognized Status of Olubadan Chieftaincy. His Imperial Majesty was crowned the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland during a well-attended ceremony. Dignitaries present included the Vice President of Nigeria, His Excellency, Prof Yemi Osibanjo, state Governors and traditional rulers from within and outside Oyo State.
