Healthcare is one of the four pillars of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration under Omituntun 2.0. The Oyo State Government has been addressing the infrastructure and personnel gap in the sector. On 15 March 2023, we published a list of over 209 Primary Healthcare Centres upgraded across 30 LGAs in Oyo State. These upgraded PHCs are being equipped. The equipment procured for the upgraded and existing PHCs was based on the minimum standards for Level 2 PHC facilities in Nigeria.
Recall that on 7 March 2023, Governor Seyi Makinde presented symbolic cheques of four million, five hundred and fifty thousand Naira (N4,550,000) to Ward Development Committee members for equipping 264 primary healthcare centres across the State. This initiative has now been completed, with eight PHCs per LGA in all 33 LGAs fully equipped with medical, laboratory and clinical equipment, totalling 264 facilities. Thus the funding for equipping the PHCs was from the Oyo State Government, Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, IMPACT Project, and Basic Health Care Provision Fund.
